You guys, it’s flip-flop weather outside! And I don’t have to wear a jacket outside…is this really February in Massachusetts?! I really can’t believe it!

Navy cardigan: Lands’ End Canvas. These sweaters come in SO MANY great colors, and the price can’t be beat!
Polo: Lacoste. The original preppy shirt. I am obsessed with my Lacostes!
Jeans: American Eagle Outfitters. I’ve always been a fan of AE jeans, and am in love with this straight cut. This cut is only available online and not in stores, though.
Flip-flops: Old Navy. A spring/summer staple! So cheap you can buy them in every color!
Misc.: Michael Kors watch, ribbon belt made by friend, pearl earrings, Essie nail polish in “Mob Square” on my fingers and “In Stitches” on my toes.

Writing A Book Review While Still Reading The Book

Hello!! After seeing the movie trailer for The Lucky One, I was like, well, I want to see this movie, so this is my chance to finally read a Nicholas Sparks book before I see the movie. A while back, my amazing friend, a Sparks’ fan, told me about his book that would star Zac Efron in the movie version. I was like “Good…I finally can read a NS book and then watch the movie”. Mind you, I love Zfron with my heart. I find him to be a total stud muffin, as with any “pretty boy”. I am not the kind of person to not read, but I always “forget” to read the book before the movie comes out. After seeing quite a ton of tear jerking Sparks’ films, I decided I would read this one. Now, this book would have not really sparked (get it, the author’s last name is Sparks!) my interest at all if the actor was not Zac. I am more of a star crossed lover tale in South Carolina, not about people who work in such heroic career (Dear John/The Lucky One), because it is too sad and I am still clueless about rankings/military terms/countries we are at war with. I like sappy, not tragic! But somehow I enjoy Apocalypse Now. But any who, The Lucky One. I love romantic movies, but I have actually never read a true romantic book. Gossip Girl not included. Until now. A brief fact about me: When I start a book, I cannot do anything until I finish it, in that day. I loved to read with a passion. However, I was shocked that since I could read the back of a cereal box and be intrigued that reading only the first 20 pages of this book made me what to cover my head with said box. I have read amazing works of literature, seeing as my favorite books are all “banned”. Now why cannot I get through this book, or have to put it down?! I will finish this book, in time. It is well written, and it is very good, so what is holding me back? I think I have the answer. I keep waiting for that twist to come at the end, even though I am at page 40. If I have never seen a movie based off a Sparks’s book, I would have been done and given a real review of this. Do not you worry; I will give a real one sooner or later.

Now, what is this about? That is a great question! I will boil it down to a few sentences; my terms…then I will post the real one. Chadsey version: There is a young man in the military (tour?) who finds a beautiful young woman’s picture in the sand. He is pretty awful at poker, but after finding the photo… (I do not want to be the one who ruins it for you, so I will let the author do it for me).

Do not feel like you will hate the book just because I am only at page 40 and bought it last week, it is very good, this is my first reading of a Nicholas Sparks’s book after watching all of the films based on them and felt like I can share what I am feeling towards them! This does not seem like a book review, but this is like a background to the real review! Stay tuned!

Who wears short-shorts?

Ok, it’s only February, but there are two things have warm weather on my mind: 1. spring break (even though I’m not going anywhere warm), and 2. it’s going to reach 60 degrees here in Mass today! Crazy!

So, in honor of the sunshine and warmer temps, I’m going to feature my favorite shorts of all, J.Crew’s chino shorts. I’m a fan of the 3″ and 5″ inseam lengths, but they also have them in 7″ and 9″ lengths. What I love about these shorts is that they never change them. They come out every year in fresh colors, but the cut and fit is always the same. It’s wonderful.

Look at all the fun colors!

The best thing about these shorts is that you can wear them with anyyyything! The possibilities are nearly endless!

Have less things, but have great things

Several weeks ago, I had to do a probate inventory (or a fancy way to describe a list) of everything in my dorm room for a class I’m in on the material culture of the South. I was completely overwhelmed by all the useless stuff I have! I came across the quote the other day and I’ve been thinking about it ever since. We could all stand to have a little bit less stuff. So much of what I have is essentially useless. So, why not cut down on the amount, but focus on the quality? This can be applied to so many different things – instead of buying a top you’ll only wear once, opt for something with quality that will last. Declutter your life, and make the things you have count.

Spring 2012: Nail Polish Edition

While most people are obsessing over the newest looks from this past Fashion Week, I cannot get over the newly released Spring 2012 Nail Polish Collections! I don’t know if I have mentioned this before, but I am a slight nail polish addict. I paint my nails like four to five times a week. (Don’t judge we all have our weaknesses). Anywho, here are a few of the most popular brands and their Spring colors.

I love, love, love Essie nail polish and I know that it is definitely a staple for all prepsters! Perfect colors for Spring and if you mix it with their sparkly topcoats, it is even better!

This season, OPI chose Holland as it’s inspiration. Personally, I think that some of their colors are a little on the dark side for Spring, but I do really love the bottom left hand side.

I really love Butter nail polish because it is formaldehyde free and I don’t feel like I have my face in a bucket of cleaning products after I finish painting my nails. I am in love with the center color and the green next to it. Perfect!

Lastly, Chanel released a sneak peek of their collection and that pink is to die for. Side note, I have twelve pink nail polishes so if I later post that I bought this, smack me. I know, I have a problem for reals.

Trend: colorblock!

If you’ve been paying attention to fashion in the last couple months, you know that one of the biggest trends out there is colorblocking. What I like best, though, is that it’s not one of those things that is strictly on-trend for this season and then will fade out. A lot of the pieces can be adapted into any preppy or classic wardrobe!

Here are some of my favorite color block pieces out there heading into this spring!

I was at Ann Taylor a couple weeks ago, and I fell in love with this top. It’s so flattering and all the different neutrals mixed with the bright tangerine tango are so much fun!

This cashmere sweater from J.Crew mixes cool blues and greens…perfect to welcome green spring leaves and blue skies!

Galentine’s Day

There’s a lot of things in life I agree with Leslie Knope of Parks & Rec on. These include the importance of breakfast food and more importantly, the celebration of Galentine’s Day. So, if you don’t have a Valentine this year, consider writing your friends 5,000 word essays on why they are so awesome…or maybe just go out for breakfast food with some girl friends?

While Stars Hollow is a fictional Connecticut town, I sought to find some of the true inspiration behind the set. According to Wikipedia, Stars Hallow is based on the towns of Essex and Washington, CT; however, I think that my home town of Guilford is a strong contender. What do you think?

Food for your Valentine!

Whether you are anxiously awaiting Valentine’s Day with your special someone or you are anxiously awaiting sitting on the couch and watching The Notebook (not me whatttt?)… Valentine’s Day is a big gift holiday. If you are stumped as to what to get your special someone, I challenge you to make them something! We all know that the key to any boy’s heart is through their stomach, so here are some easy recipes for Valentine’s Day treats. These would also be perfect for classmates, friends, or siblings!

Valentine’s Day Bark- Super simple, throw some pretzels on a wax paper coated tray, cover with melted white chocolate, and then festive candies or sprinkles. Enjoy!
