I don’t know about where y’all live, but it’s finally gotten chilly here!  I’m having to break out all of my winter clothes, and I can’t bundle on enough layers!  Sometimes it’s hard to stay bright and cheery when it’s so incredibly cold outside.Screen Shot 2013-01-26 at 11.56.52 AM

Add some fun scarves and mittens for a pop of color!Screen Shot 2013-01-26 at 12.02.52 PM

Keep it neutral and add a funky fair isle earflap hat!Screen Shot 2013-01-26 at 11.59.09 AM

Add some fun with a cowl peeking out from under your coat.

How are you keeping warm and not letting the cold keep you down?

Three Valentine’s Outfits!

Like I said last week, Valentine’s Day is my favorite holiday to decorate for. But, the decorations don’t stop with your home and your phone, you can also dress for the occasion! I’m a sucker for all things pink and/or red, so these are some of my favorite looks of the year. I put together looks for three separate occasions you might have going on!

outfit three

Class time: Sweater, tank top, jeans, tote, shoes.

outfit two

Date night: Earrings, blazer, tee shirt, skirt, bracelet, shoes.

outfit one

Dinner with friends: Necklace, top, kakis, sneakers.

Anatomy of a ski outfit

Winter break is the perfect time to go on ski trips with friends and family! I’ve been skiing my whole life and have a bunch of friends ask me for advice in the past about what they should wear when they’re out on the mountain. On the flip side, as a racer and ski coach, I’ve seen some people wear truly bizarre things out on the slopes. For the past eight years, I have spent a majority of my winter days skiing, so I like to think that I’ve gotten dressing for it down to a science.

If you’re a newby to the snow, or if you’re just looking for a new outfit next time you head to the mountains, here’s what I’ve come up with:

Untitled

1. TRUST: If your hands aren’t happy, neither are you. I personally like mittens, others like gloves…it’s just a matter of what works for you. The key thing here is to get a warm, waterproof pair. Find this pair here.

2. I am a huuuuge fan of turtle necks. Especially when I’m skiing. They are the perfect base layer and prevent cold air and snow from coming down your neck and chest while you’re outside. Just a basic cotton one will do, but high-tech base layers are also good. Find this one here.

3. Flannels are also good for keeping warm. Layering is key. I like flannels because they’re lightweight, soft, and pack in a bunch of warmth. Find this one here.

4. Long underwear is your friend!!! I know it sounds old fashioned, but it’s so comfy! I really don’t understand the people that don’t wear anything under their ski pants…I couldn’t do it!! Find this pair here.

5. Socks! For a day on the slopes you need a pair of good, TALL socks! A word to the wise: thick wool socks are no good in ski boots. They’re uncomfortable. Go for a specially-made ski sock, your feet will thank you. Find this pair here.

6. When it comes to jackets, I have always been a fan of the solid bright colors as opposed to trendy stripes or prints. This helps you get so much more life out of the jacket! When it’s solid, it will last practically forever without going out of style. Find this one here.

7. If you treat your pants well, they should last for years. I have had the same pair for over eight years and I still love them. Granted they’re race pants and are built to be sturdy, but they should last you awhile. Go for classic black: they hide the dirt better and will more than likely go with all of your gear. Find this pair here.

8. The helmet is important because it protects your head when you fall. I always think it’s fun when people have bright colored helmets, it helps show off their personality. US Ski Teamer Ted Ligety created his Shred brand with that in mind…not only are they top-notch helmets, but they come in awesome colors and styles. Some even have iPod connections! Find this one here.

9. Goggles are the last but certainly not least important part of any ski outfit. They protect your eyes! Mucho importante. Find this pair here.

Fashion Challenge: 4th of July edition!

I already posted this on my own blog, but I thought it might be a good post for The Prep Crew, too!

On Tuesday, I’m heading down to Cape Cod to spend the fourth of July and the following weekend with Matt and his family. It’s going to be a week filled with baseball, fireworks, and the beach…three of America’s favorite pastimes!

I was making a packing list of things and clothes to bring last night when I got a really interesting idea. Since it’s the Fourth of July and since I looooove wearing red, white, and blue together (it’s one of my favorite color combos), wouldn’t it be fun to pack nothing but clothes that are those colors and mix and match? So that’s the plan. I’ve got plenty of items that are either red or navy blue, and I’ve got tons of white staples to pair them with. Basically I’m trying my best to make Betsy Ross proud. It’s going to be fun.

Here are some of the pieces I’ll be playing with–

It’s going to be a fun week!

Are you planning on going all out for “Independence Week”? It’s turning into a bit of a competition between me, my mom, and my sister! Leave your outfit ideas in the comments!

The finals crunch is upon us!

Here at my school, it’s the last week of classes.  And that means one thing…every hard assignment from the semester is due this week.  In the last two days, I’ve written two and a half research papers, and I still have one and a half more to go.  You could say that people are going a little crazy.  Thank goodness it’s Wednesday and the week is almost over!

I know that fashion is definitely the last thing on your mind when you’re cramming in all that work in preparation for finals, but I think it’s still important to look cute while sitting in the library, even though you may or may not be dying a little on the inside.  Obviously, comfort is key when it comes to finals week fashion.  I’ve put together a few looks that will keep you cozy, but also help you to look put together even when your mind is a little out of whack.  Also, I’m a firm believer in the “dress well, test well” philosophy, so hopefully these will help!

I hope these outfits give you some inspiration to look cute while you’re working hard studying! I’m definitely going to try to recreate them best as I can!

Good luck on finals!  Only a couple more weeks till summer!! :)

Easter Best!

Not surprisingly, it ended up being a very preppy Easter at my house.  We went to Sunday mass dressed to the nine’s in our Easter best.  For today’s post, I thought it would be nice to feature my mom and brother’s outfits in a edition to my own!  Clearly we all went for the same spring-y navy and kelly green color palette, and I love the pop of pink in Walter’s tie and my mom’s jewelry.

 On me:

  • Dress: Banana Republic
  • Sweater: GAP
  • Wicker basket: vintage Etienne Aigner
  • Shoes: Ralph Lauren
  • Misc.: signet ring, vintage earrings that were my grandmother’s, pearl necklace, tortoise shell headband from J.Crew
On Walter:

  • Shirt: American Eagle Outfitters
  • Kakis: American Eagle Outfitters
  • Tie: my dad’s
  • Shoes: Sperry

On my mom:

  • Dress: Banana Republic
  • Sweater: Ann Taylor
  • Bag: Kate Spade
  • Misc: Kate Spade earrings, Alex and Ani bracelet, Ann Taylor bracelet, vintage bracelet, vintage necklace.

What did you wear on Easter?

OOTD 3/22/12

I know it’s only the third day of spring, but I swear it feels like summer out there!  Tank tops, shorts, flip flops…it’s all good!  This is actually my outfit from yesterday, but I thought I’d share :)

I’m wicked bummed that this weather isn’t going to carry on into this weekend (especially because I’m going to The Cape), but at least I had this one week of fun in the sun!

What I’m wearing:

  • sweater: J. Crew
  • top: American Eagle
  • shorts: Old Navy
  • sandals: Jack Rogers
  • accessories: Old Navy necklace, pearl earrings, signet and claddagh rings, bracelets: Pandora, Alex and Ani, and random silver bangle.

Is it feeling like summer for you guys too?

OOTD, March 16, 2011

It’s almost St. Patty’s day, so that means I’m celebrating what little bit of Irish heritage I have!  Of course, this calls for wearing green.  It’s still the day before, so I’m not going all-out green yet, but I am still being festive with my scarf.  I am obsessed with the pom-poms on the ends.

Tomorrow, I’ll be going to the St. Patrick’s Parade in Newport, RI, and I think I’ll be wearing my green cable-knit sweater.

What I’m wearing:

    • Sweater: J. Crew.
    • Jeans: American Eagle
    • Scarf: Old Navy
    • Shoes: hand-me-downs from my cousin Remmy
    • Accessories: Claddagh ring (I wear it everyday anyway, but hey…it’s Irish!), Pandora bracelet, signet ring.

What will you be wearing this St. Patty’s Day??

xoxo, Karoline
