Super Bowl party ideas!

I am thankful for the mess to clean after a party because it means I have been surrounded by friends

My mom sent me this awesome quote the other morning, and it got me thinking about this coming weekend’s Super Bowl festivities.  Of course I (along with the rest of New England) am super duper nervous excited because the Pats are playing in the Rematch-of-the-Century against the Giants.  However, I know that a lot of people throw Super Bowl parties regardless of who’s playing.  It’s fun to gather up all of your friends and watch the game, laugh at the commercials, and eat tons and tons of junk food.  And, you know, preppies love any excuse to party.

My cousins throw a Super Bowl party every year, but it’s always the best when the Patriots are in it.  This is the 5th time in 11 years that New England has made it, so you might say that we’ve perfected the art of the Super Bowl party.  There’s tons of food, the house is filled with friends and family, there’s a pool you can bet on, and of course we’re all glued to every play.

All of the ideas I’ve got below are easily adaptable to a dorm or apartment setting, so no matter where you watch, I’ve got you covered!  These are fun ideas whether you’re a casual watcher or a die-hard football fanatic.

  • Have a dress-up contest and show your team spirit!  This one really only works if you’re going to be with a large group of people who are fans of the teams playing, but can be fun for fans of other teams too.  Just pick the team you like better, wear their colors, and get as creative as you can–think face paint, and fun accessories! (The Giants and Patriots have similar colors, though, so this could get tricky).  At half time, have everyone vote and award a “team spirit MVP”.  Just make sure you don’t turn into any of these guys.  Make sure to take plenty of fun pictures!

  • Bake a cake!  Everyone knows that Super Bowl Sunday is basically National Junk Food Day, and everyone loves cake, so it’s the perfect excuse to have some fun baking one!  You can get in the spirit by shaping it like a football, helmet, or even the Lombardi Trophy!

The Patriots posted this ADORABLE cupcake that pays homage to Bill Belichick's infamous hoodie. GENIUS!

  • If you’re 21+, the Super Bowl drinking game is always great fun.  Just keep it to one quarter or half…it’s a looong game and you want to be safe!  The guys at Living With Balls (excuse the name…) create one every year, and it’s really taken on a life of it’s own as an American Classic! http://livingwithballs.com/the-super-bowl-xlvi-drinking-game/
  • Throw a potluck.  Make sure every one coming to your party brings one thing to share.  Be it wings, dip, or other snacks, everyone is sure to leave with a full belly!

How will you be celebrating the Super Bowl this sunday?  And more importantly, who will you be rooting for?  Take the poll below!

xoxo & GO PATS! -Karoline
