Fourth of July OOTD!

Hey everyone,

One of my favorite holidays is coming up–the Fourth of July! I have always loved checking out fireworks and attending cook outs with friends and family to celebrate America’s birthday. This year I was very upset to find out that I’ll be spending the day time this Thursday, stuck inside, working… BUT! I won’t let that stop me from getting festive! Check out this red, white, and blue outfit I plan on wearing to work!

Relay for Life

According to RelayforLife.org, “In May 1985, Dr. Gordy Klatt walked and ran for 24 hours around a track in Tacoma, Washington, ultimately raising $27,000 to help the American Cancer Society fight the nation’s biggest health concern – cancer. A year later, 340 supporters joined the overnight event. Since those first steps, the Relay For Life movement has grown into a worldwide phenomenon, raising more than $4 billion to fight cancer” (RelayforLife.org).

Relay for Life is an over night, community fundraising walk, taking taking place on a track. Fundraising teams are made, and they camp out around the track, with members on the team taking turns walking throughout the night. Activities, entertainment, and games make Relay for Life events fun and exciting!

It’s that ‘Relay’ time of year again! Are you part of a community that puts on a Relay for Life event? If so, what are you waiting for? Get a team together and start fundraising! All money raised goes  to benefit the American Cancer Society and supports the fight against Cancer.

I am very excited to participate in a Relay for Life event this Friday at Bridgewater State University. As a college community, (as of today) BSU has raised over $43,000 to support the American Cancer Society via a Relay for Life event!!! (Go Bears!)

Relay for Life ‘s theme color is purple; the purple ribbon is the universal sign designated to represent all Cancers. Add a couple purple accents and accessories to your wardrobe to help “paint your community purple”, and spread awareness about Relay for Life!

I ‘Relay’ for SarahBoczanowski and Cathy Brossi, two very important people to me, whose lives have been effected by Cancer. With individuals coming together, small communities will be able to make a huge impact on those suffering from Cancer, by spreading hope, awareness, and support to loved ones who need it, and honor to all survivors.

Why do you ‘Relay’?

Snow Again?!

With a lovely new season about to start in a few days, I’m sure I’m not the only one who is coming down with a case of “spring fever”. I cannot wait for sunny days, spring-time flowers popping up all over the place, and of course, warm-weather fashion! Although… Mother Nature seems to have other plans (depending on where you live, of course). More snow! Karoline and I have experienced a couple of hard core blizzards this semester at our university in Massachusetts, and we just got hit with another snow storm last night!

Has your town turned into a winter wonderland over night? Are you stuck with a delay or ‘snow-day’ from school? Take advantage of the time off and make the best of this snowy weather with some of these fun things to do indoors!

Business Casual

Since last Thursday, I have attended a Leadership Conference in Washington D.C., dressed up for a Phi Sigma Sigma sorority chapter meeting, had a job interview, and tomorrow I’ll be spending my day at Jury Duty! Needless to say, over the last six days, ‘business casual’ outfits are all I’ve been wearing. I love getting dressed up, and all of these excuses to do so have allowed me to get a lot of use out of all my skirts, khakis, dresses, and dress pants, and create some cute, professional outfits! Need help getting your ‘business casual’ look together? Check out my favorite combinations below!

OOTD — 02/26/13

So khaki pants and sweaters are pretty much what I reach for when I get up to get ready these (wintery) mornings. I love how sweaters look layered on top of a button down or polo shirt. Not only do I love this outfit, but ‘Mrs. O’Leary’s BBQ’ by O.P.I. (pictured to the left), is probably my absolute nail color of all time. I just had to show it off in this O.O.T.D.!

Valentine’s Day Baking

As I’m sure you guys have figured out from my fast few posts…I am a huge romantic who absolutely LOVES Valentine’s Day—the decorations, colors, gifts, and the whole idea behind Valentine’s Day is simply wonderful to me. Even without a Valentine, February 14th is still a day to recognize and appreciate the people in your life, like your friends and family, who you love.

One thing that really gets me into the Valentine’s Day spirit is baking. There are thousands of “love” themed recipes out there, and today I’ve assembled a few Valentine’s Day treats that I think you will really enjoy baking!

1. Cupcakes and Cookies

Cookies and cupcakes are two very “go-to” choices when it comes down to figuring out what to bake. However, what people don’t always realize is that cookies and cupcakes that need to be decorated open the door to endless possibilities! Use sprinkles, dyed frosting, and Valentine’s Day candy to spruce up sugar cookies and cupcakes. If you’re making the classic chocolate chip cookie, why not add Valentine’s Day red, pink, and white M&Ms to the mix? If you are looking to get really fancy, try something different like the Red Velvet Crinkle Cookie (these are sooo good!) Get the how to here!

2. Fruity Treats

Don’t forget about fruit! Valentine’s Day treats do not always need to be baked; Heart Shaped Fruit Kabobs and Chocolate Covered Strawberries are refreshing and just as festive, sweet and tasty as any cookies or cupcakes!

3. Miscellaneous Treats

These I just had to throw in here. The Pretzel Kiss Candies and Marshmallow Pops look so delicious, and so easy to make.  Don’t be afraid to get creative, and non traditional with your baking!

Save $$$ this Valentine’s Day!

Okay, so I am all for spoiling the ones we love on Valentine’s Day, but if you’re a college student, like me, you’re probably not made of money. I like to keep an eye out for deals and sales as much as the next person; here are a few of my tips on how to save money this Valentine’s Day:

ceff56ca7fe59515f2ee339a17cb0c47

1. Decorations. Are you hosting a Valentine’s Day party or looking to make your dorm room a little more festive? A lot of people overlook stopping by Dollar Stores when it comes to buying decorations. You can get a lot of awesome decor (from themed table cloths, plates, and centerpieces, to window decals, bathroom hand towels, and plastic Champagne flutes) for very little cash! Check out other local vendors after Valentine’s Day is over, and you might be able to find some cool items on sale to decorate with next year.

2. Gifts. When it comes to Valentine’s Day gifts, it really is the thought and effort that counts. Valentine’s Day is a day to show your special someone how much you love and appreciate them…not how much money you can drop on a fancy piece of jewelry. In my opinion, a great Valentine’s Day gift would be something handmade! Pair your gift with a sentimental card and you’re good to go!

3. Dinner. You know what is just as romantic as getting dressed up and going out on a Valentine’s Day dinner date? Cooking your sweetie’s favorite meal, getting dressed up and staying in to eat. Now I know that might seem like a lot of work, but hear me out! By staying in you get to create the perfect atmosphere for your at-home date: set the scene with candles, that special occasion dish set, and your favorite music. Plus, you will save money and avoid the Valentine’s Day rush at restaurants.

4. Flowers. Women love to get flowers…especially on Valentine’s Day. While roses and Valentine’s Day pretty much go hand in hand, a bouquet of red roses can be pretty pricy! If you plan on getting your Valentine flowers, find out what specific kind she likes. Maybe she prefers a cheaper type of flower or even a potted plant!
