Spring Fashion

Springtime is officially here! While it still may not feel like it, warmer weather is definitely on the way! This past weekend, it was a beautiful 80 degrees in Charleston so I definitely need to start steering clear of the sweaters and breaking out my new spring favorites.

I would definitely call this a transition season outfit. Throw a sweater or cardigan over a nice bright dress to make any day, whether it be casual or busy, a stylish one. Riding boots can definitely last you into the spring on those colder days to dress up an more casual dress. Also, Jack Rogers or wedges do the job well too. I am also a huge fan of belted dresses. The coral color of this dress is absolutely perfect for spring and the gold jewelry perfectly accessorizes the outfit.

This outfit can be for work, class or even a girls night out or a date! The dark skinny jeans with the cute neutral wedges are a perfect transition into spring. I love the green color of the tank and am always looking for shirts in bright colors like this because they standout and make any outfit look that much better. The Tory Burch earrings are maybe a tad over the top, but any gold earrings would look fabulous with such an outfit. Kate Spade’s earrings are to die for, so check them out! The Tory Burch purse is so cute and the cross body is key to this outfit. I am definitely adding this to my next wishlist. Also, it matches the beautiful orange and gold bracelet perfectly.

This outfit is the perfect spring day outfit. This white top is adorable and I love the neckline and the gold embroidering. So many stores, from American Eagle to the Gap to Bloomingdales have variations of this simple shirt. Plus I love white blouses in the summertime, especially with bright shorts! I love coral, so the chino shorts (from J.Crew!) totally make me think of summer. Gold sandals are a staple in any summer wardrobe. A professional tote bag can be used with any outfit at any time of day-for class, going to lunch, out at night, or even for an interview! I also have a thing for themed charm bracelets, and this gold beach charm bracelet is definitely on my wish list.

Springtime is the best time for new clothes, a new wardrobe, and pairing together old pieces in new ways. Accessorize with bright colors, buy versatile tops that go with everything (shorts, jeans, white pants, skirts), focus on dresses because they make anyone look dressier, and find perfect summer shoes!

St. Patrick’s Day!

As a grandchild of Irish immigrants and being 100% Irish, I LOVE St. Patrick’s Day more than any other day of the year! I grew up outside of New York City with my Irish family so I would always be allowed to skip school on March 17 and head into NYC to march in the big parade! It was always the best time, getting to be with my family and celebrating our heritage and of course finishing the whole day off with a glorious Irish meal of Corned Beef and Cabbage! But, finding green to wear was always troublesome, so here are some of the best St. Patrick’s Day outfit ideas!

Old Navy Scores

I’ll be the first to admit that I am SO excited for spring to roll around…shorts, skirts, dresses, short sleeves, no sweaters?  Sign me up!  Old Navy is one of those stores that is either hit or miss…sometimes they have super cute things at affordable prices and sometimes they’re just way out in left field with their styles.  I am happy to report that for this spring, Old Navy has some awesome pieces!

Business Casual

Since last Thursday, I have attended a Leadership Conference in Washington D.C., dressed up for a Phi Sigma Sigma sorority chapter meeting, had a job interview, and tomorrow I’ll be spending my day at Jury Duty! Needless to say, over the last six days, ‘business casual’ outfits are all I’ve been wearing. I love getting dressed up, and all of these excuses to do so have allowed me to get a lot of use out of all my skirts, khakis, dresses, and dress pants, and create some cute, professional outfits! Need help getting your ‘business casual’ look together? Check out my favorite combinations below!

Favorite Store: Francesca’s!

Hey Everyone!

So I live in Charleston, South Carolina and work at our Athletics Department, which is located on famous King Street, world renowned for its shopping! Not only does King Street feature national favorites such as J. Crew, Lilly Pulitzer, the Gap, Forever 21, and more, but it is also famous for its cute and unique boutiques! One of my favorites happens to be Francesca’s!

I have been trying to save money and avoid King St as much as possible, but on my walk back from work today I saw the cutest things in the window at Francesca’s and just couldn’t help myself from popping in! Before long, I was in the dressing room holding 12 items and ended up buying some things!

Francesca’s is not only cute and adorable, but also SUPER affordable for dresses, nice blouses, and awesome jewelry and bags! I buy a lot of pieces here that last forever and can go from class to a night out on the town to a formal event or interview! They also color code the store, which I think is awesome, and have amazing little accessories or gifts which work for birthdays or events in a pinch. They have boutiques located across the country, but their website is also fabulous and offers amazing deals!

Here are some of my favorites that I saw in the store today, so check them out in your local Francesca’s or online!

Happy Shopping! Get ready for spring clothes!

Fashion Challenge: 4th of July edition!

I already posted this on my own blog, but I thought it might be a good post for The Prep Crew, too!

On Tuesday, I’m heading down to Cape Cod to spend the fourth of July and the following weekend with Matt and his family. It’s going to be a week filled with baseball, fireworks, and the beach…three of America’s favorite pastimes!

I was making a packing list of things and clothes to bring last night when I got a really interesting idea. Since it’s the Fourth of July and since I looooove wearing red, white, and blue together (it’s one of my favorite color combos), wouldn’t it be fun to pack nothing but clothes that are those colors and mix and match? So that’s the plan. I’ve got plenty of items that are either red or navy blue, and I’ve got tons of white staples to pair them with. Basically I’m trying my best to make Betsy Ross proud. It’s going to be fun.

Here are some of the pieces I’ll be playing with–

It’s going to be a fun week!

Are you planning on going all out for “Independence Week”? It’s turning into a bit of a competition between me, my mom, and my sister! Leave your outfit ideas in the comments!

Getting ready for Valentine’s

Whether you love it or hate it, Valentine’s Day is less than 20 days away! And I know it can bring a lot of stress for those of us who are coupled up or single.  However, there is one way everyone can celebrate Valentine’s without getting all bent out of shape about their love life…by showing yourself a little lovin’.  Yes, I’m talking pampering, pigging-out, and dressing up.  They’re the three best ways to keep yourself sane during Hallmark’s favorite holiday.

  • Step one: give yourself a fun manicure!  I like to stick to the traditional pinks and reds, but really any of your favorite colors will do.  Just take time to relax, put on some soothing music, and make your digits pretty.  My favorite little nail art trick is to put polka dots on my nails–fun and festive!  Here are some of my favorite valentine-related shades:

Tart Deco by Essie©

Mob Square by Essie©

Geranium by Essie© (can you tell that I'm an Essie addict?!)

  •  Step two: pig out!  If there’s one thing about Valentines Day, it’s candy.  SO. MUCH. CANDY.  This makes me very excited because I am a candy fiend.  So, go ahead and stock up on cherry JuJu hearts (my mom’s personal fave), chocolates, and conversation hearts.  They’re practically what the holiday was made for!
  • Step three: dress up!  When it comes to Valentines day, whether I have a valentine or not, I make it a point to wear my cutest pink and red items.  This year, I’ll be rocking an adorable pink polka dot sweater from Old Navy, but here are some other ideas:

This dress from J.Crew would look so great in class on or a dinner date!

This is the polka dot sweater I have (in pink, of course!)

This adorable sweater originally came from J.Crew, but unfortunately it's no longer available.

How will you be pampering yourself for Valentine’s Day?  Comment below!

December Must-Haves (for guys!)

Last week, I posted the December must-haves list.  This blog focuses mainly on women’s preppy style, but there have been some guys asking for their own list too.  So, I created a list of some of the things every preppy guy should have in their closet this winter. (And, if you still need to do some last-minute shopping for your guy, here are some ideas!)

1. Italian Wool Plaid Scarf from Rugby. I love that the colors in this plaid are dark and rugged.  I personally love scarves on men, but I don’t think they wear them enough.  Guys, what’s with that?

2. Men’s Winter Authentic Original Boat Shoe from Sperry. I know that there are a lot of guys out there who hate having to retire their boat shoes come wintertime. After all, there’s nothing fun about frozen toes. But now, you can wear your Sperry’s year-round! These ones are lined with shearling, so you’ll be super-warm!

3. Soft-Wash slim fit gingham shirt from Banana Republic. Last week, a commenter asked me what one item was the guy equivalent of pearls…what would make him look more put-together and classic? My answer: the collared shirt. Casual, dressy, I swoon when I see boys in button-downs. Stick with solids and classic ginghams and plaids and you’re set!

4. Soft-Wash slim fit chest-pocket shirt from Banana Republic. I don’t know much about men’s shirts, but I do know that my dad swears by the ones at BR. They’re a classic fit and they last a fairly long time.

5. AE Plaid Workwear Flannel from American Eagle. Warm, stylish, colorful….there’s basically nothing wrong with flannel shirts.  I suggest stocking up in several colors.

6. Vintage cord in relaxed fit from J.Crew. I’ve already professed my love for J.Crew cords several times on this site, and I’m going to keep doing it till I’ve clothed the world in corduroy. Seriously…don’t ask questions, just go get a pair of cords. You’ll thank me later.

7. Moose Brigade University Tie from Rugby. Every guy needs a tie. It’s just one of those things that you have to have in your closet at all times. I like this one because it’s got a classic repp stripe, but it also has a fun moose print!

8. Men’s Bean Boots from L.L. Bean. These boots also made an appearance on the women’s list. There’s a reason they’ve been around for over 100 years, they work. These are the best boots out there for wintery fowl weather. Also, they’re guaranteed for LIFE, so if anything ever happens to yours, Bean will replace them. That’s a pretty sweet deal if you ask me.

Hey guys, is there anything I’m forgetting on the list?

xoxo, Karoline
