Happy Galentine’s Day!

galentine

I’ve been watching a lot of Parks and Recreation lately (seriously, you should check it out on Netflix!), and one thing that I really love is “Galentine’s Day”. For those of you not in the know, Galentine’s Day was created by the show’s main character, Leslie Knope, to celebrate all of the great ladies in her life. It’s celebrated on February 13th, and is an awesome excuse to tell all of your girlfriends why you love them.

Here are some ideas to help you celebrate with friends:

  • Treat your best friend to her favorite latte
  • Have an all girls pajama party and rent chick flicks from RedBox
  • Bake cookies!
  • Write a letter to your best lady friends telling them how much you appreciate them
  • Get them a new bottle of nail polish you know they’ll love
  • Host a cocktail night

Today I am definitely going to be spreading the love to all of the great women in my life!

Valentine’s Day Baking

As I’m sure you guys have figured out from my fast few posts…I am a huge romantic who absolutely LOVES Valentine’s Day—the decorations, colors, gifts, and the whole idea behind Valentine’s Day is simply wonderful to me. Even without a Valentine, February 14th is still a day to recognize and appreciate the people in your life, like your friends and family, who you love.

One thing that really gets me into the Valentine’s Day spirit is baking. There are thousands of “love” themed recipes out there, and today I’ve assembled a few Valentine’s Day treats that I think you will really enjoy baking!

1. Cupcakes and Cookies

Cookies and cupcakes are two very “go-to” choices when it comes down to figuring out what to bake. However, what people don’t always realize is that cookies and cupcakes that need to be decorated open the door to endless possibilities! Use sprinkles, dyed frosting, and Valentine’s Day candy to spruce up sugar cookies and cupcakes. If you’re making the classic chocolate chip cookie, why not add Valentine’s Day red, pink, and white M&Ms to the mix? If you are looking to get really fancy, try something different like the Red Velvet Crinkle Cookie (these are sooo good!) Get the how to here!

2. Fruity Treats

Don’t forget about fruit! Valentine’s Day treats do not always need to be baked; Heart Shaped Fruit Kabobs and Chocolate Covered Strawberries are refreshing and just as festive, sweet and tasty as any cookies or cupcakes!

3. Miscellaneous Treats

These I just had to throw in here. The Pretzel Kiss Candies and Marshmallow Pops look so delicious, and so easy to make.  Don’t be afraid to get creative, and non traditional with your baking!

What are you baking this Valentine’s Day?!

Birthday Bash

Because my birthday is so close to Valentines Day (and I tend to celebrate Birthday month…) I skip right over Single’s Awareness (because let’s face it – I go to a womens’ college) and continue the birthday bash!  My birthday this year is on a Monday (the 11th!) so I’m planning on celebrating mostly the weekend before and then putting the celebrating on hold until SPRING BREAK (yes, like two months later) until I’ll see my parents again!

Now it’s my 20th birthday, so no wild parties with my first alcoholic purchases.  But it’s a perfectly great reason to have tons of fun with my friends?  Yes?

So Friday night (the 8th), I’m signed up to go skiing with the Outdoor Program at my school!  A few of my friends are coming and it should be a great night out on the slopes.  I went last weekend and it was super fun!

Saturday night, my friends are taking me out to dinner!  We haven’t decided where we’re going yet…but we have two favorite restaurants so I’m sure it will be one of those!

Sunday will be filled with homework and any other things that need to get done…not so fun.

But don’t fear!  Because on the big day, Monday, I’ll be promptly awoken at 6:43 am (the time of my birthday) by my bestfriend who is all the way in New York City.  This is a little tradition we’ve had since my tenth grade (and her eleventh grade) year.  We went to boarding school and the night before my 16th birthday I slept in her room.  She woke me up at 6:43 with a card that sang High School Musical…some things never change!

I don’t know what else my big day has in store for me, but as long as I’m surrounded by my friends (and by my family from a distance), I’m sure it will be great!

How do you celebrate your birthday?

xoxo,
Rebecca

Winter Nail Colors

Earlier today, my friends and I got together to try out the new nail salon that just opened in my town. As I was perusing the rows upon rows of little O.P.I. and Essie bottles, I was having trouble making a color selection—there were so many great options! Thus, I was inspired to post about some of the great color finds I came across, along with some of my long time favorites too! They all make for great nail wear during the winter season. Take a look:

Christmas Fun!

The semester is quickly coming to a close and its about time that everyone gets into the holiday spirit! While Christmas itself is an awesome holiday, I personally love the weeks leading up to Christmas and all the fun events and jolly spirit that goes on! There are a ton of ways to enjoy your holiday season this year that I hope you all can take advantage of!

Go to your local Christmas Tree Lighting!

Most towns across America, big or small, usually have a town Christmas Tree Lighting in which the community gathers to share some Christmas cheer, donate gifts to a good cause, drink some hot chocolate, hear the high school band play Christmas tunes, and simply get together to celebrate! Whether you be from NYC and get to experience the Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting, or just a local one in your town square, get out there and enjoy Christmas with your neighbors!

Christmas Shopping

Shopping around the holidays is always an experience! The malls and stores are super packed, but often decorated to the max and filled with people buzzing around, so it is always fun! Even if you are done with your gift searching, just browse around your local mall or outlet center to hear some Christmas jams and feel festive!

Watch the Christmas Classics!

I am sure that everyone has a favorite Christmas show that comes on the air around this time of year. And I know that everyone has been hearing about ABC Family’s 25 Days of Christmas! My personal favorite is Charlie Brown Christmas, but even if you just turn on the TV you will be sure to find a Christmas-themed television episode or movie, and it may even become your new annual tradition to watch it with family and friends!

Image

Christmas Music!

Its just about that time of year when EVERY radio station in your town has changed from lite hits or classic rock to Christmas Music 24/7! Now is definitely an appropriate time to be jamming out to your favorite Christmas hits at all times, so feel free to roll down your windows and sing along to Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas is You” or the ever fabulous NSync “Merry Christmas Happy Holidays!”

Enjoy the Season!

Oh So Thankful

Happy Thanksgiving Loves!

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite days of the year because it means three of my favorite things: Family, Friends, and Food! Every Thanksgiving, our family comes out to our house for a huge day of football followed by an amazing meal. Also, we have friends stop by all day long for a quick toss of the football, to catch a few minutes of the Jets game, or to share in the dessert and coffee at the end of the day. Our friends are so close that we consider them family, and I love that aspect of my family. We are always one to take in a friend from school if they have nowhere to spend their holidays or live too far. We also love to share the day with our amazing friends from the neighborhood, and I am oh so thankful to have so many amazing friends and family members in my life.

This year has been quite the amazing one. I have fallen in love with my school as well as the state of South Carolina, achieved amazing things including joining Phi Mu sorority, becoming a chair on the Dance Marathon executive board, rocking all my classes in the Honors College, working the 2012 PGA Championship at Kiawah Island with some of my coworkers who became my best and closest friends, traveling to Chicago to see The Boss (Bruce Springsteen) at Wrigley Field, voting in my first presidential election, and celebrating being a member of the Student Alumni Associates over and over again. I am so thankful for all the wonderful things in my life and I would not trade my experiences for anything in this world.

I am so thankful for my family, who is ALWAYS there for me, whether it be big or small, and supports me every single step of the way. We have gone through a lot this year, especially with Hurricane Sandy ravaging my hometown of Breezy Point, NY, but we have stuck through it and it has brought us closer, from running clothing drives to housing relatives and neighbors to rebuilding the community. These experiences have taught me that together, we can get through and achieve anything.

My friends have proven to be such a blessing and I am so thankful for each and every one of them. College has provided me with a wealth of amazing people and I am so glad to have met them and consider so many of them my friends, and now sisters in Phi Mu. My job at Kiawah introduced me to so many wonderful people who, like me, obsessed over PGA golfers and Tiger Woods’ boat parked in our marina and tennis and karaoke. I work with an amazing group of people on Dance Marathon who are all committed to making a difference for the children of MUSC Children’s Hospital. They inspire me each and every day. The Student Alumni Associates help me gain a better understanding of the college and what a great place it is to go to school. I am so very thankful for all the people who have entered my life and made such an impact.

Here is a collage of all the people, places and experiences this year has brought me and how thankful I am for them all. I hope yall had a terrific Thanksgiving!

Things I’m thankful for in pictures.

There are so many things that I’m thankful for this fall: my amazing family, awesome friends, handsome boyfriend, health, happiness, and the fact that I’ll be graduating on time to name a few. However, I think I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves. I’ve put together pictures of things that I’m thankful for from the last year.

What are you thankful for this year?
