Pop of Color: think pink!

Untitled

There are so many ways to add fun pops of color into your wardrobe. My favorite way is usually with a fun sweater or shirt, but you can also let your accessories add spunk. Pink is one of my favorite colors and is definitely a mood-booster when you’re feeling a bit out of it. So, next time you’re feeling like you’re in a wardrobe rut–which is easy to do in the winter months!–think pink!

Wicked Wednesday…Preppy Halloween Costumes!

If you’re half the procrastinator that I am when it comes to Halloween, chances are you still don’t know what you’re going to be dressing up as come this weekend when there’s all the Halloween parties to go to.  I don’t know about you, but I definitely feel like Halloween snuck up on me this year.  Although, I think it always does.

In other news, I made a princess pumpkin yesterday....

Gone are the days where my mom decides on my costume for me…this is college, I actually have to be creative now.  And, if your school’s anything like mine, you’re going to need 2-3 costumes depending on how many nights you celebrate halloween and plan on going out.  But–have no fear–I’m here to show you some fabulous costumes you can put together on the fly!  I tried to base these costumes off of things Preppies (or anyone, really) might have in their closet, so you don’t have to do too much last minute scrambling.  And let’s be real…you don’t want to look like every other girl there in a “trashy sexy [fill in the blank]” costume, either.

  • Cat: This is the puuuurfect costume for the super-procrastinator.  I was a cat for my freshman halloween.  What you need: black dress, black headband, black heels/flats, black construction paper, eyeliner.  Basically all you need to do with this costume is throw on a black dress, fashion yourself some cat-ears out of the construction paper and headband, and use the eyeliner to draw some whiskers and cute cat-eye makeup.  Trust me…sounds simple, but comes out really cute.

See? Instant cat! Also of note: my friend did the same thing, but with a grey dress and was a mouse!

  •  Lax bro: This costume is perfect for both ladies and dudes!  For the girls…what better excuse to raid your guy friends’ closets?!  What you need: a lacrosse pinnie, some shorts (try to stick to either either pastels or those crazy printed lax shorts), a snapback, and some sweet shades.  Oh, and don’t forget the lacrosse stick and mid-calf socks!  Guys, keep in mind that this costume only works if you’re not really a lax bro…otherwise how would people know you’re dressing up?  Ladies…this costume looks adorable.  I’m seriously thinking going as this one night, my brother just sent me everything I need in the mail! All else fails, look to this guy for inspiration:
  • Kate Middleton: This costume is easy-peasy.  Kate’s style is classic and put-together, plus I’m sure you have some Kate-like staples in your closet!  Plus, what girl never dreamed of being a dutchess princess when they were younger?  What you need:  I’d recommend a great-fitting dress, some riding boots or classy heels, a fake sapphire ring, and a tiara.  My mom recommended a crazy hat, so whatever floats your boat, really.  I’ve got a cranberry wrap dress that would be perfect for this look.  Note: this costume could be difficult if you don’t have brown hair.  Bonus points if you talk in a British accent all night!  Cheerio!

Oh, come on, you can't tell me you haven't dreamed of being just like Kate. (image courtesy dailymail.co.uk)

  • Risky Business: Channel your inner 80’s Tom Cruise in everyone’s favorite lip-synching scene.  What you need: a pink and white striped men’s button-down, Wayfarer sunglasses, tube-socks, tighty whities (or short black shorts if you’re not comfortable), and a candlestick.  Every year this is my absolute last-resort costume.  Luckily I haven’t had to use it yet.  However, I think it could be really fun to go out like this for a night.  My roommate dressed up as this last year and had a blast.  This costume also works great for 80’s themed parties!
  • Holly Golightly from Breakfast at Tiffany’s: This costume is one of my favorites.  Probably because of my borerline-unhealthy Audrey obsession.  What you need: a black dress (you can use the same one from the cat costume!), a few strands of pearls, a bling-y brooch. Optional: a stuffed cat, a Tiffany’s bag, a cigarette holder, or a paper coffee cup.  I did this costume when I was in high school, and let me tell you, it was a BLAST.  It’s really fun to dress up as Audrey…she just exudes elegance and grace.

Looks hard, but it's oh-so-easy! (image via recycledlovelies.com)

Hopefully some of these ideas will help you create fabulous and classy costume!  For one of the nights of Halloween, my friends and I are going to be Alvin and the Chipmunks…I’m Simon! I’m also planning on being a lax bro, and Kate Middleton is my last resort if I decide to go out a third time.

So, do any of you have any other great last minute costume ideas for our Prep-minded readers? Also, what are you dressing up as for halloween?? Comment below!

Also…much more important than what you decide on for a costume, PLEASE remember to have fun and be SAFE this Halloween weekend! 🙂

About Me :)

Hi everyone!

My name is Karoline, and I’m a New England girl through and through.  I am SO excited to be writing with Katie, Laurie Beth, Chadsey, and Meg for The Prep Crew!  I really think that this blog is going to turn into something special.  Anywho, here’s a few things about me:

I’m a junior comm major at Bridgewater State University.  I love absolutely everything about my school, and I’m president of my class.  I turned 20 last month, and I’m still having a hard time dealing with it.  Half of me really doesn’t want to get older, and half of me can’t wait till I reach that magic number, 21.  I’m a skier.  I’ve been doing it basically as long as I’ve been able to walk.  During winter breaks I coach my high school alpine racing team. 🙂

I’m addicted to polka dots (seriously, check out my dorm room!).  My favorite foods are sushi and nutella–but not together! Ewww!  I sincerely wish I could say that I wasn’t addicted to my iPhone, but alas, it’s practically attached to my hand.  I have an ever-growing collection of Sperry’s, and my roommate thinks I’m nuts because of it.  I collect postcards that my friends and family send me from around the world.

I’m alway down for new experiences, meeting new people, and partying it up.  I’ve been called an extreme optimist, but hey–I just like to look on the bright side.

I have a blog of my own, Karoline With a “K”, and you can also follow me on Twitter, @karolinez

Like I said before, I’m really looking forward to this, and I can’t wait to get the ball rolling!  Here’s to The Prep Crew! 🙂

Cheers!

Karoline
