Pop of Color: think pink!

Untitled

There are so many ways to add fun pops of color into your wardrobe. My favorite way is usually with a fun sweater or shirt, but you can also let your accessories add spunk. Pink is one of my favorite colors and is definitely a mood-booster when you’re feeling a bit out of it. So, next time you’re feeling like you’re in a wardrobe rut–which is easy to do in the winter months!–think pink!

Bracelets!

It’s a little strange, but the inspiration for today’s post actually comes from my brother, Walter. Yesterday morning, he was giving my sister her Christmas present and was telling her why he got her a bangle from J.Crew. He said something along the lines of, “I was talking to the saleslady, and she told me it was enamel, and apparently that’s really….’in’ right now”. It was hilarious. “In” became the line of the day.

However, I was inspired to put together some fun bangles and bracelets to spice up your wardrobe. Whether you call them stacks or arm parties, they’re always fun.

Deck the halls with winter wallpaper!

When it comes to holiday decoration, I like to go all out. What can I say, I get it from my mom. While it isn’t my favorite holiday, Christmas is my favorite holiday to decorate for. When I decide to deck the halls, I don’t stop at my dorm room…I like to decorate my computer as well. So, I’ve made some winter wallpapers that you can download (just click on the image and then drag-and-drop onto your desktop!) to add some winter decoration to your desktop, too.

I’m currently using the “merry and bright” one, but I can’t wait until post-Christmas so I can use the “ski” one! Enjoy!

Note: all of these wallpapers were made for screens that are 1280 x 800 pixels (MacBook and MacBook pro). If you would like a different dimension, please comment and I can adjust the wallpaper to your preferences!

Do you have any quirky ways that you decorate? Leave it in the comments!

Boots for any weather!

Last week, Caroline posted about riding boots for fall. Today, we’re going to show you some awesome all-weather boots as we dive deeper into November and start to experience wintery rain and snow. One of the biggest challenges about rain and snow boots is that you want to stay warm and dry, but at the same time you want to look cute. So, I’ve pulled together some of the best styles I could find at reasonable price points.

Left to Right:

Tommy Hilfiger, $59.95

Volatile, $54.95

Sperry Top-Sider, $79.95

Colors, left to right: Blue Ridge/Navy, Coral Rose/Black, Tan/Navy

Bean Rubber Mocs, $79.00

L.L. Bean 8 in Bean Boot, $119.00

Hope these help to keep you warm and dry!

Prepping for: a first date!

Lately, it seems like I know so many people who are going on first dates! Fall with it’s crisp air is cuddle season, and there’s all the fun weekend activities like apple picking and hayrides so I can definitely see why everyone is suddenly wanting to pair up. In the last week, I’ve had two separate friends come to me with fashion advice for a first date.

My theory on first date fashion: it’s important, and you want to make a great first impression, but you need to be comfortable!

If you’re not comfortable, it’s going to be hard to have a good time and you won’t be as confident as you might otherwise be. Let’s face it, getting to know someone new is awkward enough.

I’m also a believer that you should look cute for a first date but at the same time, just step up your normal look just a bit. Add a cute necklace or a sparkly pair of shoes. You want to express yourself and your own style.

I’ve put together some cute first date looks for a range of activities. Hopefully they’ll put your mind at ease and help make one of your first dates a bit less stressful!

Fashion Challenge: 4th of July edition!

I already posted this on my own blog, but I thought it might be a good post for The Prep Crew, too!

On Tuesday, I’m heading down to Cape Cod to spend the fourth of July and the following weekend with Matt and his family. It’s going to be a week filled with baseball, fireworks, and the beach…three of America’s favorite pastimes!

I was making a packing list of things and clothes to bring last night when I got a really interesting idea. Since it’s the Fourth of July and since I looooove wearing red, white, and blue together (it’s one of my favorite color combos), wouldn’t it be fun to pack nothing but clothes that are those colors and mix and match? So that’s the plan. I’ve got plenty of items that are either red or navy blue, and I’ve got tons of white staples to pair them with. Basically I’m trying my best to make Betsy Ross proud. It’s going to be fun.

Here are some of the pieces I’ll be playing with–

It’s going to be a fun week!

Are you planning on going all out for “Independence Week”? It’s turning into a bit of a competition between me, my mom, and my sister! Leave your outfit ideas in the comments!

Spring/Summer tops wish list

I went shopping with my mom this past weekend–and let me tell you–there are so many cute tops out there right now! Mostly it’s just wishful thinking for me cause I haven’t really started my summer job yet, but all of these would look awesome in my wardrobe. I love all the bright colors and fun patterns I’m seeing out there this season. Also…all the stripes!

What are some of your must-have tops this season? Leave it in the comments!

Summer date ideas!

Summer lovin’ had me a blast…now I have that song stuck in my head….

When I was thinking about what to post this week, my mind kept traveling to summer vacation since I’ll be done with finals in a week.  And then I thought about summer dates.  Unfortunately, when we both go home, my boyfriend lives 2+ hours away. But it’s only more inspiration to make the time we spend together this summer really fun (also, lucky for me, he lives on the summer paradise that is Cape Cod!).  Summer is a great time to catch up with friends and family that you missed all year while you were at school, but it’s also the perfect time to go on some really great dates.

Whether it’s your summer fling or a long-term romance, these are all great ideas that will have you laughing and having fun together!

1. The drive-in. This is a date that I tied this past weekend, and it was a BLAST! It’s perfect solo or for double or group dates.  Usually they charge per car, and it’s not that expensive.  The old school feel is a great bonus, and definitely ads to the fun. Also, going to the drive-in means you get to see a double feature.  Definitely a bonus!  My recommendation? If you don’t have a trunk you can open up and lounge in, bring some lawn chairs, load up on blankets and bring plenty of yummy snacks.  The one thing I didn’t like was that because of the double feature, you’ll get out LATE…like 1AM late. So definitely stock up on caffeine too.  Visit driveinmovie.com to find one near you!

2. Baseball.  During the summer, I work at a minor league ballpark and it seriously is one of the best parts of the season.  I have so much fun just working there, and I know from when I was younger that the games are a blast for the fans too.  I can only imagine that it would be an awesome place to take a date.  There are a bunch of minor league teams across the country, and it’s usually an affordable alternative to seeing the big leaguers.  Plus, there’s usually some awesome promotions and giveaways, so I suggest checking the calendar to see what’s in store before you go.

3. The beach.  This one is pretty much a no-brainer.  Grab some towels, fill up a few water bottles, lather up in SPF, and don’t forget your bathing suit!  There are so many things at the beach that can make a date fun: swimming, building sand castles, or playing games like frisbee, corn hole, and ladder ball.  Or, even just going for a romantic walk along the shore.  Swoon.  Seriously, the beach can’t be beat.

These are just a few ideas, but there are literally tons more.  Maybe I’ll include a part two later in the summer!

Have you been on any spectacular summer dates?  Leave it in the comments!

The finals crunch is upon us!

Here at my school, it’s the last week of classes.  And that means one thing…every hard assignment from the semester is due this week.  In the last two days, I’ve written two and a half research papers, and I still have one and a half more to go.  You could say that people are going a little crazy.  Thank goodness it’s Wednesday and the week is almost over!

I know that fashion is definitely the last thing on your mind when you’re cramming in all that work in preparation for finals, but I think it’s still important to look cute while sitting in the library, even though you may or may not be dying a little on the inside.  Obviously, comfort is key when it comes to finals week fashion.  I’ve put together a few looks that will keep you cozy, but also help you to look put together even when your mind is a little out of whack.  Also, I’m a firm believer in the “dress well, test well” philosophy, so hopefully these will help!

I hope these outfits give you some inspiration to look cute while you’re working hard studying! I’m definitely going to try to recreate them best as I can!

Good luck on finals!  Only a couple more weeks till summer!! 🙂

Easter Best!

Not surprisingly, it ended up being a very preppy Easter at my house.  We went to Sunday mass dressed to the nine’s in our Easter best.  For today’s post, I thought it would be nice to feature my mom and brother’s outfits in a edition to my own!  Clearly we all went for the same spring-y navy and kelly green color palette, and I love the pop of pink in Walter’s tie and my mom’s jewelry.

 On me:

  • Dress: Banana Republic
  • Sweater: GAP
  • Wicker basket: vintage Etienne Aigner
  • Shoes: Ralph Lauren
  • Misc.: signet ring, vintage earrings that were my grandmother’s, pearl necklace, tortoise shell headband from J.Crew
On Walter:

  • Shirt: American Eagle Outfitters
  • Kakis: American Eagle Outfitters
  • Tie: my dad’s
  • Shoes: Sperry

On my mom:

  • Dress: Banana Republic
  • Sweater: Ann Taylor
  • Bag: Kate Spade
  • Misc: Kate Spade earrings, Alex and Ani bracelet, Ann Taylor bracelet, vintage bracelet, vintage necklace.

What did you wear on Easter?
