Prepping for: a first date!

Lately, it seems like I know so many people who are going on first dates! Fall with it’s crisp air is cuddle season, and there’s all the fun weekend activities like apple picking and hayrides so I can definitely see why everyone is suddenly wanting to pair up. In the last week, I’ve had two separate friends come to me with fashion advice for a first date.

My theory on first date fashion: it’s important, and you want to make a great first impression, but you need to be comfortable!

If you’re not comfortable, it’s going to be hard to have a good time and you won’t be as confident as you might otherwise be. Let’s face it, getting to know someone new is awkward enough.

I’m also a believer that you should look cute for a first date but at the same time, just step up your normal look just a bit. Add a cute necklace or a sparkly pair of shoes. You want to express yourself and your own style.

I’ve put together some cute first date looks for a range of activities. Hopefully they’ll put your mind at ease and help make one of your first dates a bit less stressful!

London Calling

I’ve been watching the Olympics basically non-stop since the Opening Ceremonies this past Friday. Judging by my Twitter and Facebook feeds, I’m not alone in that. I’ve been loving every moment and learning new things about a bunch of different sports. However, the thing I’ve been having the most fun with is cheering on Team USA.

Preppy retailers have also been cheering on the Americans over in London and are offering all sorts of Olympic garb. Here are some of my favorites!

But first of all, can we talk about this picture of Ryan Lochte on the Ralph Lauren home page?! SWOOOON. God bless America!

Ralph Lauren is the official outfitter of the United States Olympians, so of course he’s sending them across the pond in preppy splendor. There are some adorable options available on his website if you really want to show your USA pride:

Left to right: Team USA Slim Polo Dress, Team USA London T-Shirt Dress, Team USA Duffle, Team USA Ceremony Dress

Alex and Ani, one of my new favorite jewelry designers, has also made a collection of bracelets for Team USA. My mom actually got one in the mail today from my aunt!

Top row: USA Iconic Set of 3 – Russian Silver, Tower Bridge Expandable Wire Bangle – Russian Silver, USA Set of 5 – Russian Gold

Bottom row: Team USA Shield Expandable Wire Bangle – Russian Gold, Team USA Shield Set of 3 – Russian Gold

To see Alex and Ani’s complete Team USA line, click here! I’m also loving the USA ones in red, white, and blue enamel!

Also…have you seen the video of the USA swim team singing and dancing to “Call Me Maybe” yet?? It’s awesome! Seeing our Olympians having so much fun makes me want to root for them even more! Also…I’m kind of obsessed with Missy Franklin, I just think she’s adorable!

Have any of you been geeing out over the Olympics as much as I have? Which events are your favorites? Leave it in the comments!

Go USA! xoxo, Karoline

Easter Best!

Not surprisingly, it ended up being a very preppy Easter at my house.  We went to Sunday mass dressed to the nine’s in our Easter best.  For today’s post, I thought it would be nice to feature my mom and brother’s outfits in a edition to my own!  Clearly we all went for the same spring-y navy and kelly green color palette, and I love the pop of pink in Walter’s tie and my mom’s jewelry.

 On me:

  • Dress: Banana Republic
  • Sweater: GAP
  • Wicker basket: vintage Etienne Aigner
  • Shoes: Ralph Lauren
  • Misc.: signet ring, vintage earrings that were my grandmother’s, pearl necklace, tortoise shell headband from J.Crew
On Walter:

  • Shirt: American Eagle Outfitters
  • Kakis: American Eagle Outfitters
  • Tie: my dad’s
  • Shoes: Sperry

On my mom:

  • Dress: Banana Republic
  • Sweater: Ann Taylor
  • Bag: Kate Spade
  • Misc: Kate Spade earrings, Alex and Ani bracelet, Ann Taylor bracelet, vintage bracelet, vintage necklace.

What did you wear on Easter?

xoxo, Karoline

Bold winter colors

There’s a lot of things I like about my winter wardrobe.  I love being able to wear all my scarfs and I have so many cute and comfortable sweaters.  It’s really easy to be cozy and comfortable during the winter.  But, winter clothes are so overrun by dark colors!  Here’s some of my ideas for how to incorporate trendier, bright pops of color into those dark winter outfits.
bright1. Kate Spade Gild The Lily Idiom bangle
2. Kate Spade Sweet Zinnia pendant necklace
3. J.Crew No.2 pencil skirt in double serge cotton in casablanca blue
4. Butter London nail lacquer in Disco Biscuit
5. Ralph Lauren Black Label cashmere cable knit sweater in mandarin orange
6. Kim Rogers Rio leather checkbook clutch

Outfit of the day: 12/22/2011

Merry Christmas everyone!  Here’s my outfit from today.  All I’ve done today is go to lunch with my sister & go to work, but I am obsessed with this new sweater I got from J.Crew yesterday!

1. Gray honeycomb sweater: J.Crew.  Run run RUN to your closest J.Crew – these are on sale & with the extra 30 percent off at J.Crew right now, they’re 50 percent off!

2. Pink oxford collar shirt: Ralph Lauren.  You can never have too many of these staple shirts.  I own tons of them and they last forever.

3. Jeans: J.Crew Factory.  I’m so short even J.Crew’s short jeans are too long on me, but I’m so picky about jeans, I can’t find any other reasonably priced pairs that I like.

4. Green top-siders: Sperry, circa 2004.  But, really, I got these for Christmas when I was 12.  Just goes to show some things never go out of style.
