Fourth of July OOTD!

Hey everyone,

One of my favorite holidays is coming up–the Fourth of July! I have always loved checking out fireworks and attending cook outs with friends and family to celebrate America’s birthday. This year I was very upset to find out that I’ll be spending the day time this Thursday, stuck inside, working… BUT! I won’t let that stop me from getting festive! Check out this red, white, and blue outfit I plan on wearing to work!

Old Navy Scores

I’ll be the first to admit that I am SO excited for spring to roll around…shorts, skirts, dresses, short sleeves, no sweaters?  Sign me up!  Old Navy is one of those stores that is either hit or miss…sometimes they have super cute things at affordable prices and sometimes they’re just way out in left field with their styles.  I am happy to report that for this spring, Old Navy has some awesome pieces!

As you can see, Old Navy has stepped up it’s game and put out some super cute tops for the spring.  And you don’t want to miss those capris…they have embroidered anchors on them!  Always check the Old Navy website before you head to the store because you can usually print out a coupon, and if you see something you like snatch it up quickly!  They change out their stock extremely frequently!
Happy shopping!

Favorite Store: Francesca’s!

Hey Everyone!

So I live in Charleston, South Carolina and work at our Athletics Department, which is located on famous King Street, world renowned for its shopping! Not only does King Street feature national favorites such as J. Crew, Lilly Pulitzer, the Gap, Forever 21, and more, but it is also famous for its cute and unique boutiques! One of my favorites happens to be Francesca’s!

I have been trying to save money and avoid King St as much as possible, but on my walk back from work today I saw the cutest things in the window at Francesca’s and just couldn’t help myself from popping in! Before long, I was in the dressing room holding 12 items and ended up buying some things!

Francesca’s is not only cute and adorable, but also SUPER affordable for dresses, nice blouses, and awesome jewelry and bags! I buy a lot of pieces here that last forever and can go from class to a night out on the town to a formal event or interview! They also color code the store, which I think is awesome, and have amazing little accessories or gifts which work for birthdays or events in a pinch. They have boutiques located across the country, but their website is also fabulous and offers amazing deals!

Here are some of my favorites that I saw in the store today, so check them out in your local Francesca’s or online!

What Time Is It?!

I’m planning on using my birthday money to buy a new watch…the only problem is I can’t decide which watch to get!  I currently have a tortoise shell watch, so I’m thinking that I should get a gold or rose gold watch…but there are TOO MANY choices!

What are your favorite watches?  Which do you think I should get?

Monogram Love

Hello everyone!

I have recently gotten way too obsessed with monograms! Of course, when we were all younger, we had monogrammed things. But on my college campus, monograms have gotten to be extremely popular and you can find them on practically everything and anything! These are some of my favorite monogrammed items you can find!

Image

1) I love love love wearing 3/4 zip pullovers on those chilly days in Charleston or just as a cute sweatshirt for going to the gym. This beautiful one from Sweet Tea Monogram is so cute, especially with the anchor and the brilliant colors!

2) I have seen so many girls rocking the monogram vest during these winter days here in Charleston! A vest can really spice up an outfit and the monogram makes it cute and personal! Marley Lilly makes a variety of colors and styles!

3) Marley Lilly does it again with this amazing Luxe Cross Body bag! I LOVE a good cross body, especially with a chain, because it can truly jazz up any going out outfit!

4) Monogram iPhone cases are all the rage now! It seems like everyone is personalizing how their phone looks! After scouring Etsy forever, I finally found a store Happy Rabitz that makes amazing Chevron print monogram cases in beautiful colors! I love it!

5) Monogram scarves can top off any outfit! I adore mine, but this chevron print in amazing colors really caught my eye! Check it out at SatinStitchDesigns!

6) Sweet Tea Monogram also makes koozies! Since moving down south, I have become a koozie fanatic and keep a collection of them! Not only are they cute, they serve a good purpose in keeping your drink cool and keeping it out of your hand! I love the seersucker prints with the big bright monogram!

Have you found any cute things to monogram lately?

XOXO,

Caroline

City Spotlight: New York City!

New York City is the best place to visit during the holiday season! The entire city is decked out in lights, ornaments, trees, menorahs, bows, and festive colors. It is truly magical experiencing Christmas in New York, and it should definitely be on everyone’s bucket list. While I am from outside the city, I love being a tourist this time of year and taking the train in to see some of the famous sights and sounds! New York City is easy to reach throughout all of New England, NJ, Pennsylvania, and Washington DC by train, so it makes for a perfect day or overnight trip, and it totally worth it! Here are some of my favorite things to do in New York City during the most magical time of year!

Image

Rockefeller Center

Rockefeller Center needs to be at the top of everyone’s to do list when they come to NYC, especially around the holidays! This is the world’s largest Christmas tree that they light each year in a televised special complete with famous musicians and bands. It is truly a sight to see with all its colors and blinking lights and ice skating on the Rockefeller Center rink in the shadow of the tree, complete with Christmas music, is so quintissential New York City! Rockefeller Center is also filled with fun stores including J.Crew, Anthropologie, Nine West, Banana Republic, H&M, Magnolia Bakery and Dean and Deluca to finish that holiday shopping or grab a fun treat. This is by far my favorite section of the city, especially during this time of year!

Enjoy a Holiday Show

NYC is of course famous for its Broadway shows! This year, they have a multitude of holiday themed Broadway and Off-Broadway productions to offer! Two years ago, I saw Elf on Broadway and it was just as funny, if not more, than its movie counterpart! Plus, its always such a blast to get dressed up and attend a Broadway show, especially at this festive time of year. The Theater at Madison Square Garden is also showcasing How The Grinch Stole Christmas, and seeing the Radio City Christmas Spectacular with the Rockettes is a holiday tradition!

Image

Take in a (free) Late Night Show!

Just yesterday, I had the privilege of attending a taping of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon! This was always a dream of mine, since I think Jimmy Fallon is the funniest man in the world, and what made it all the more better was a favorite band of mine, Florida Georgia Line, was the musical guest! Getting the tickets was extremely easy: I simply entered my name online and a day later, was contacted by the show saying I had 2 tickets to the date I requested! Most late night and/or talk shows filmed in NYC have this same process, including Saturday Night Live, which was also such a fun thing to attend. So why not give it a shot! You will definitely be in for a ton of laughs and an eye-opening experience in the television world!

The Christmas Shopping and Windows!

Famous department stores such as Macys, Bloomingdales, Lord and Taylor, Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue and Barneys are renowned for their Christmas windows! Definitely take the time to walk Fifth Avenue and explore the deparment stores and their windows to see what this is really all about. Each one tells a story and since the stores are so big, the windows are tremendous and go on for an entire block or two. They usually have a different theme every year so they are always individual and unique. Macy’s Herald Square, the largest department store in the world, is a spectacle in itself around the holidays! Its 8 stories are filled with tourists and locals alike, speaking in a buzz of thousands of different languages, each trying to find Santa Claus or the perfect gift or simply to experience NYC at Christmas time!

Hannukah in NYC!

Central Park, near the Plaza Hotel, features the world’s largest Menorah! They light it each and every night of Hannukah and begin the 8 nights with a huge ceremony! NYC is home to a very large Jewish population so this occasion is taken very seriously and is celebrated widely! Each night, this area of Manhattan is a buzz with activity as it is right in the center of all the Holiday shopping and activities, so check it out if you are around!

Image

Ice Skating in Bryant Park

While there is ice skating at Rockefeller Center and Central Park, the huge and beautiful ice rink at Bryant Park behind the NY Public Library is FREE! All you have to do is pay a cheap skate rental and you are set to go! Here, they play Christmas music as you skate around in the shadow of the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building. The skyline around the park is magnificent and beautiful. There is also a beautifully lit Christmas tree here, as well as so many holiday pop up shops which offer gifts to give for the holidays from handbags to ornaments to pet clothes to chocolate! Also, definitely check out the terrace restaurant here, where you can enjoy a hot cocoa or a full blown meal while overlooking the skaters and the skyline!

NYC is definitely the place to be around the holidays and everyone should experience it once! Check it out if you can! I am so happy I get to call this place home!

XOXO,

Caroline

Christmas Fun!

The semester is quickly coming to a close and its about time that everyone gets into the holiday spirit! While Christmas itself is an awesome holiday, I personally love the weeks leading up to Christmas and all the fun events and jolly spirit that goes on! There are a ton of ways to enjoy your holiday season this year that I hope you all can take advantage of!

Go to your local Christmas Tree Lighting!

Most towns across America, big or small, usually have a town Christmas Tree Lighting in which the community gathers to share some Christmas cheer, donate gifts to a good cause, drink some hot chocolate, hear the high school band play Christmas tunes, and simply get together to celebrate! Whether you be from NYC and get to experience the Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting, or just a local one in your town square, get out there and enjoy Christmas with your neighbors!

Christmas Shopping

Shopping around the holidays is always an experience! The malls and stores are super packed, but often decorated to the max and filled with people buzzing around, so it is always fun! Even if you are done with your gift searching, just browse around your local mall or outlet center to hear some Christmas jams and feel festive!

Image

Watch the Christmas Classics!

I am sure that everyone has a favorite Christmas show that comes on the air around this time of year. And I know that everyone has been hearing about ABC Family’s 25 Days of Christmas! My personal favorite is Charlie Brown Christmas, but even if you just turn on the TV you will be sure to find a Christmas-themed television episode or movie, and it may even become your new annual tradition to watch it with family and friends!

Image

Christmas Music!

Its just about that time of year when EVERY radio station in your town has changed from lite hits or classic rock to Christmas Music 24/7! Now is definitely an appropriate time to be jamming out to your favorite Christmas hits at all times, so feel free to roll down your windows and sing along to Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas is You” or the ever fabulous NSync “Merry Christmas Happy Holidays!”

Enjoy the Season!

Memorial Day Weekend!

Its officially Memorial Day Weekend and we all know what that means…the official beginning of SUMMER! I know you are all just as excited as I am for the fun and good times that comes along with the beginning of the season and I am going to share some of the fun activities to partake in and get involved in with family, friends and loved ones!

Memorial Day is PERFECT for your first trip to the beach or the shore! So break out those bathing suits you had stored away from last summer, or even better, find some new cute ones! Target has proved to be such a great place for the best new bathing suits this season! I am loving the nautical feel of stripes this summer and this top goes right along with my style!

I also LOVE bows and this cute bandeau top is precious!

I am also a huge fan of bright colors: turquoise, magenta, plum, sea foam green, lemon,  and neon! This bright blue/green top with a cute applique is so stylish and summery!

The best part about these tops: being able to mix and match the bottoms, so you may never even wear the same bathing suit all season!

Also, it is FLEET WEEK in New York City over Memorial Day Weekend! It is so much fun because fun (and cute!) naval officers come into town and love chatting with you and getting to know the city from locals! I know all the Long Island/New England prepsters will be hitting up Manhattan this weekend!

Also, since I am a southern college girl and am soon heading down to spend my summer in the lowcountry, spending time out on the river or the lake is a MUST for summer weekends! In Charleston, we have “Shaggin on the Cooper” every Friday night, where locals and visitors alike meet down on the docks of the Cooper River to dance the state dance, the Shag, and meet and greet with other fun loving folks! Its always a good time getting to dance under the moonlight to fun beach music and meet some fun and outgoing people!

SHOPPING! Everyone knows Memorial Day brings huge sales to all your favorite stores and malls! If the weather proves to be too hot or rainy, head to the mall to take advantage of some amazing deals! Target has some hot shoes this season, if your in the market for some wedges or heels or sandals in bright, summery colors! Also, keep a look out for some emails from some of your favorite retailers because I am sure they’ll be keeping you informed of some price cuts or discounts in order of the holiday!

Channeling Blair Waldorf

Who’s ridiculously excited that Gossip Girl is back?  I can’t speak for anyone else, but I know I’ve been going crazy without my weekly dose of the Upper East Side for the past month or so…I’ll refrain from posting spoilers from last night’s episode (mostly because I don’t have a TV and I haven’t gotten around to watching it online yet), but I’m beyond thrilled that it’s returned.  And as any good preppy girl knows, Blair Waldorf’s style is always impeccable and worthy of replicating.  In terms of Blair Waldorf, here’s the essential items you need to feel like you’ve just stepped out of the Upper East Side.

  1. Overstated headbands.  It’s easier to find crazy headbands for little girls, like this organza flower headband from crewcuts.  But you can make your own by taking a plain headband and attaching something like a flower pin or hairclip to it.
  2. Bright colored heels.  Blair is never spotted without cute shoes, of course.  Bright colors such as turquoise and bright floral patterns are a great way to channel Blair through your footwear this spring.
  3. Basic blazers.  In her Constance Prep days, blazers were a staple of Blair’s wardrobe on the show.  Blazers are a great “in between” piece for spring weather.  A bright pink blazer would perk up any outfit, or keep it classic with a more understated piece.
  4. Cool sundresses.  The summer episodes of Gossip Girl are filled with great styles that aren’t often seen throughout the rest of the season, and Blair is often wearing floral sundresses.  Now that the weather is getting warmer, it’s the perfect opportunity to break out looser sundresses in fun patterns.

You know you love me, xoxo.
